Microsoft Rolls Out Student Advantage

Key to any 1-1 deployment (one device per student) are tools that will help every student achieve their potential; however, based on recent surveys, there are two main concerns in the move toward the realization of a 1-1 program. The top two concerns are as follows:

  1. Budgeting for IT staff,

  2. Cost of IT hardware/software.

Microsoft is hoping to alleviate the latter their program, wittingly dubbed “Student Advantage,” that allows entities which license Microsoft Office for faculty to receive Office 365 for students 100% free of charge.

This means that the Student Advantage program brings the Office 365 Education Plan A2 to the next level by not only providing the web based services for schools to include document editing online, storage, and web conferencing, to name a few, but also giving students access to the full Microsoft Office suite.

This allows students to engage and enrich their experience encouraging new levels of creativity and learning without causing the managing entity to be forced to make cuts elsewhere in order to provide this world class service.
